Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 101 in North Tillamook County
Lieutenant Gregg Hastings
Public Information Officer
(503) 731-3020 ext. 247

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a motorcycle-involved fatal traffic crash on Highway 101 in the Twin Rocks area of northern Tillamook County.

On June 22, 2012 at approximately 7:38 p.m. OSP and local emergency responders were dispatched to a reported crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle on Highway 101 at Minnehaha Street in Twin Rocks near milepost 51. The seriously injured motorcycle operator was transported by Tillamook Ambulance to Tillamook County General Hospital where he died.

Preliminary investigation indicates a motorcycle operated by JAMES BRENT FRANCIS BURNETT, age 70, from Clackamas, was northbound on Highway 101 going through the intersection with Minnehaha Street when a stopped Datsun pickup lurched forward at slow speed into the side of the motorcycle. BURNETT lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle. He was wearing a protective helmet.

The pickup's driver, PAMELA JEAN LaFONTAINE, age not available, from Garibaldi, was not injured. She told investigators her foot slipped off the clutch causing the pickup to jump forward at a slow speed.

OSP troopers from the Tillamook work site are continuing the investigation and no citations have been issued at this time. Lead investigator is Trooper Aaron Butcher.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Tillamook County Sheriff's Office, Tillamook Ambulance, Rockaway Beach Fire Department, Rockaway Beach Police Department, and ODOT.
