Henry “Beany” McMackin, 55, of Yachats, Ore., died May 15, 2009 at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.

He was born Dec. 25,1953 to Fred and Betty Malloy McMackin in Portland. He attended Cleveland High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marines after graduation. He served most of his military duty in Okinawa, Japan.

He worked for many years as a house painting contractor in Portland until a motor vehicle accident prevented him from working. He then moved to Yachats 20 years ago to be closer to his mother. He spent many hours playing Yahtzee, cards, and board games with her as her health failed.

He had many friends and loved practical jokes. He and his friends were always playing pranks on each other and trying to outdo the previous gag.

He was a lifelong Harley Davidson enthusiast and traded up bikes until he finally got the one he wanted: his gold trike that allowed him to ride even with his physical disability.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert , Fred , Anthony , and Victor; and sister, Norma.

He is survived by his son, David ; lifelong companion, Linda  of Portland; sisters, Joanne of Terrebonne and Rose of Yachats; grandson, David ; granddaughters Michelle and Melaina both of Portland; and 16 nieces and nephews.

A full military honor funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. A formal funeral procession led by the Oregon Patriot Guard Riders will depart from Newport for the conclusion of services at Willamette.

Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Affordable Burial and Cremation, P.O. Box 513, Newport, OR 97365.
